8hues — Terms, Privacy & Community Guidelines
Last updated: 13 October 2026
8hues is an adults-only service. You must be 18 or older to create an account or use this site. By using 8hues you confirm that you meet that requirement.
Every page carries the RTA ("Restricted To Adults") label, which parental-control software recognises. See Parental controls.
Terms of Service
1. Who may use 8hues
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement where you live. You may not use 8hues if you have previously been removed for violating these terms, or if you are barred from using a service of this kind under applicable law.
8hues is switched off in countries where being gay can carry the death penalty, because an app that shows who is nearby could put people there in danger. In other countries that criminalise being gay, safety mode is turned on for every account (see How your location is handled).
2. Your account
You are responsible for your account credentials and for everything done through your account. Provide accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us right away if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else. One person, one account.
3. Content you post
You keep ownership of the photos, text, reviews, and messages you post. By posting, you grant 8hues a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, resize, and display that content for the purpose of operating the service. The licence passes to whoever takes over running 8hues (see section 12), and only for that same purpose. You confirm you have the right to post it and that everyone depicted is an adult who consented to the posting.
4. Profile reviews
8hues lets members leave reviews on each other's profiles, optionally without their name attached. Reviews must describe your own genuine experience. Do not post someone's legal name, workplace, home address, phone number, health status, or other identifying details. Do not post a review to threaten, extort, or retaliate against someone. Anonymous reviews are anonymous to other members — 8hues retains the author's account identifier internally so that abuse can be investigated and acted on, and so that reviews can be removed and the author sanctioned when these rules are broken.
Reviews are opinions of individual members. 8hues does not endorse or verify them. Anyone can report a review; moderators may remove any review at their discretion.
5. Prohibited conduct
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18, or content that presents an adult as a minor.
- Posting anyone's private information, or sexual images of a person without their consent — including fakes made with editing software or AI.
- Harassment, threats, stalking, hate speech, or targeting people for their race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or HIV status.
- Commercial sex work, trafficking, or the sale of controlled substances or weapons.
- Scams, catfishing, impersonation, phishing, or requests for money.
- Bots, scrapers, bulk automated accounts, or evading a ban with a new account.
- Recording, screenshotting, or redistributing another member's private messages, photos, or video sessions without their consent.
6. Moderation and enforcement
We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account at any time when we believe these terms or the community guidelines have been broken, or to protect members. Serious violations — especially any involving minors, non-consensual imagery, or credible threats — are removed on sight, may be reported to law enforcement, and result in a permanent ban. Apparent child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as US law requires.
Reports are read by a person. Reports that someone is under 18, or that an intimate image was shared without consent, alert us straight away. Every moderation action — a suspension, a restriction, a removed photo or post, a resolved report — is logged with who took it and when. A suspension signs the account out everywhere at once.
7. Administrative access
The site's owner can, for support and safety investigations, temporarily use the service as a member's account. Only the owner can do this, each session ends after an hour at most, and its start and end are logged with the owner's identity and the account used. What is done during the session is not itemised separately. While acting as a member, the owner cannot change the account's passkeys or settings that only the member may change. This access exists to investigate abuse reports and resolve account problems, and is not used for any other purpose.
8. 8hues Plus and payments
8hues is free to use. Seeing the map, messaging the people on it, and changing your displayed location ("travel mode") are free and unlimited. No card is needed to create an account.
8hues Plus is an optional paid tier. It adds incognito browsing, read receipts, video rooms, seeing who viewed you, and a map without ads. New Plus purchases are paused at the moment. When they are open, payment is taken by Square on a checkout page they host: 8hues never sees or stores your card details. Memberships are granted by hand once the payment shows in our Square account, so to change or cancel one, email privacy@8hues.com or reply to any 8hues email.
Plus is sometimes opened to every member for a short promotional period, which is announced in the app. Changing your displayed location is free and always will be, and is never part of a paid tier. Nothing you can do on 8hues today will begin costing money without you actively choosing to pay.
9. No warranty; limitation of liability
8HUES DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENING ON ITS MEMBERS. 8hues is provided "as is". We do not verify members' identities, statements, health status, or intentions. Meeting people from the internet carries risk and that risk is yours. To the maximum extent permitted by law, 8hues and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months or fifty US dollars.
10. Intimate images shared without consent
If a sexual or intimate image of you is on 8hues without your consent, ask for it to be removed at 8hues.com/takedown or by emailing takedown@8hues.com. You don't need an account. We remove it, and any identical copies on 8hues, within 48 hours, block it from being uploaded again, and email you what we did or why we couldn't.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use 8hues after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
12. If 8hues changes hands
If 8hues, or the part of it that holds your account, is sold, merged into another business, or handed to a company set up to run it, these terms and your account pass to the new operator. We'll tell you in the app before that happens, and you can delete your account first.
Privacy Policy
What we collect
- Account data: email address, handle, and a salted PBKDF2 hash of your password. We never store your password itself. If you add a passkey, we store its public key, never anything that could sign in as you.
- Profile data: the stats, kinks, about-me text, and photos you choose to enter.
- Location: your device's coordinates, used to place you on the map, and the fixed random offset we add before anyone else sees you (see below).
- Activity: messages, public-chat posts, reviews, favourites, blocks, profile views, and reports. Your conversation list keeps a short preview of each conversation's last message.
- Ads: which of our ads you were shown or tapped, and when.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, the address your browser's push service gives us for your device.
- Settings and notices: choices such as safety mode and incognito, and when you acknowledged the safety notice.
- Technical data: IP address and request logs, used for security, abuse prevention, and rate-limiting. Positions are kept out of request addresses, so the logs hold at most an area about a kilometre across.
- How you found us: recorded once, when you sign up — the address of the site that linked you here (never your search terms), the first 8hues page you opened, your country as estimated from your IP address, and your browser's user-agent. Accounts made before we kept this have only their country and user-agent recorded, once, the next time they sign in or open the app. Used to learn which sites bring new members and to spot automated or fraudulent accounts.
- Removal requests: for a request to remove an intimate image, the name, email address and details the person gives us, whether or not they have an account.
How your location is handled
Your exact coordinates are never sent to other members. The server offsets the position other people see by a random distance, which you control in settings (250 feet to 13 miles). The point is always at least half that distance away from you, and at the default setting at least a third of a mile. The offset point is fixed rather than re-drawn on each update, so it cannot be averaged out across readings. Only you see your true pin. Travel mode replaces your displayed location entirely with an area you searched for.
Safety mode goes further: your position is first rounded to the middle of an area about 11 km (7 miles) across, then given the widest offset, so moving around inside that area shows nobody anything. Nobody sees how far away you are, guests can't see you at all, you can't host, and notifications say only "You have something new." You can turn it on in Settings → Location privacy. It is turned on automatically, and stays on, for accounts used in a country that criminalises being gay.
Photos
Photos are re-encoded in your browser before upload, and their metadata — GPS location, camera details — is stripped again on our server before they are stored. Photos you send in a private conversation can be opened only by the two of you. When you remove a photo, or a moderator does, the file is deleted from our storage straight away; a copy someone's browser already downloaded can stay in that browser's cache for a while. A photo removed because it was shared without consent, or was illegal, is blocked from being uploaded again by its digital fingerprint.
Who we share with
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. These services see some of it because 8hues can't run without them:
- Cloudflare hosts 8hues: the site, the database, photo storage, video calls, outgoing email, request logs, and privacy-friendly visit counts (no cookies).
- OpenStreetMap serves the map, and Esri the aerial view. Your browser fetches map pictures from them directly, so they see your IP address and the area you are looking at.
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap's search) receives the place names you search for in travel mode, from our server, not from your device. Overpass servers receive the area being browsed, from our server, to find public places on the map.
- Push services run by your browser's maker (Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft) deliver notifications if you turn them on. What they carry is encrypted.
- Square takes payment for Plus, on its own page, and sends us a receipt.
- Apple iCloud holds the mailbox that 8hues's email addresses deliver to, so emails you send us, and payment receipts, are stored there.
If 8hues changes hands
If 8hues is sold, merged, or handed to a company set up to run it, the information we hold passes to the new operator as part of that, and it must keep to this policy for everything collected under it. It is never sold on its own. We'll tell you in the app before it happens, so you can delete your account first if you'd rather.
Law enforcement
We disclose information to law enforcement only when a valid legal process requires it, when we believe in good faith that someone faces an immediate risk of death or serious injury, or when the law requires us to report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Retention
Public-chat messages, and the photos posted in them, are deleted automatically after 24 hours. Request logs are kept for up to a week. Other content stays until you delete it or your account is deleted.
When an account is deleted, we delete its profile, photos, messages and conversations, favourites, blocks, reviews, passkeys and notification addresses. We keep: payment records and receipts, which tax law requires; reports made by or about the account, and the moderation log, for safety; the record of notices we sent it; and promotion and referral records. Photos removed because they were illegal or shared without consent are kept blocked by fingerprint only, never as the photo — except apparent child sexual abuse material, which the law requires us to preserve, out of reach, for a year.
Your choices and requests
You can edit or delete your profile content, clear your photos, block or mute anyone, turn on safety mode, and reduce your location precision at any time. To delete your account, to get a copy of your data, or to correct it, email privacy@8hues.com from the address on your account. We answer within 30 days.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: we don't track you across other sites, so there is nothing for Do Not Track to switch off. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request not to sell or share your information, which we don't do anyway. Nevada residents: we don't sell covered information; you can still send a request to privacy@8hues.com.
Cookies
8hues sets one essential HttpOnly cookie to keep you signed in. The owner's account sets a second, used only while acting as a member (see Administrative access). Your browser also keeps your app settings — the map style, your units — on your own device. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and our own ads are not personalised using third-party data.
Community Guidelines
- Be honest. Your stats, photos, and reviews should describe reality.
- Consent is the whole thing. Ask before sending explicit photos. "No" ends the conversation.
- What happens on 8hues stays on 8hues. Don't screenshot, record, or repost anyone.
- Review the encounter, not the person's identity. No names, jobs, addresses, or health status — ever.
- Report rather than retaliate. Use the 🚩 button and say what happened; a person reads every report.
- Block freely. Blocking is mutual and immediate — you disappear from each other's map, chats, feed, and reviews.
Staying safe
- Use caution when communicating with a stranger who wants to meet you.
- Don't put your last name, email address, home address, phone number or anything else that identifies you in your profile or messages until you feel comfortable with the other person. Stop talking to anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information.
- If you meet, tell a friend where you're going and when you'll be back, get yourself there and home, don't be picked up from your home, and meet somewhere public first.
- Anyone who can commit identity theft can also fake a profile. Members are not identity-verified, and we don't run background checks.
- Nobody on 8hues should ever ask you for money, gift cards, or crypto. That's a scam — report it.
- Turn on safety mode, or set your location precision higher, if you live somewhere identifiable.
The safety center has more, including how reports are handled and where to get help.
Parental controls
8hues is for adults only. As federal law (47 U.S.C. §230(d)) asks us to tell you: parental control protections — such as computer hardware, software, or filtering services — are commercially available that may help limit a child's access to material that is harmful to minors. The Federal Trade Commission explains the options at consumer.ftc.gov. Most such tools recognise the RTA label on every 8hues page and block it.
